Responsibilities:
Rotating Shifts. Provide layer 1-3 network support for production and disaster recovery customers. This includes all levels of problem determination and resolution using various diagnostic techniques, equipment and service provider resources to successful completion. Assemble and update documentation in the form of trouble ticket logs, subscriber profiles and network diagrams. Provide technical assistance to all internal/external customers during network outages. Responsibilities:
This group will be moving toward a rotating shift. Candidate should be from an ISP background - must have stellar technology base with equally strong management skills - this area is fast paced, customer driven and must be a strong front line for the NOC Engineering group. Carrier expertise will be very helpful.

Provide technical and detailed design assistance to Network Implementation Engineers during the implementation phase of new client networks. Develop and act as project leader to facilitate the implementation of subscriber network requirements, network infrastructure, network equipment installation, de-installation and relocation of equipment for our MegaCenter and regional MetroCenters. Responsibilities:
Assist with or take a leadership role in Engineering projects. Provide engineering solutions to achieve Network Technologies goals using layer 2 and layer 3 technologies. Provide technical and detailed designs for core IP/MPLS network. Provide technical and detailed designs for implementation of customer network environments. Evaluate and select vendor products as needed for Engineering projects, or as requested by other department and organizations. Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and education through training and certifications. Create and maintain technical documentation, including operational procedures, reference materials, and research papers. Design, maintain, and support network management systems and software. Provide technical training to engineering and other departments for new technologies and services. Provide level 3 operational support to Network Operations and Network Implementation groups. Requirements:
B.S. degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent skills developed through industry experience is required. Minimum five years industry experience in network engineering in a service provider environment is required. Expert level knowledge of routing protocols including BGP4, OSPF, ISIS, etc. is required. Expert level knowledge of spanning tree and layer two switching concepts is required. Expert level knowledge of load balancing technologies, firewalls, IDS, DNS is required. Experience with IOS and JunOS software is highly desired. CCIE or JNCIE certification is highly desired. Extensive knowledge of data communication concepts and technologies is required. Experience with Unix or Windows 2000 systems administration is desired. Programming or advanced scripting experience is desired. Ability to effectively use diagnostic tools is required. 06758 - Data Communications Engineer - 3rd Shift

3rd Shift; Sun through Wed: 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide data communications support during network tests and actual recoveries; includes first level problem determination and resolution. Identify and coordinate all network test activities and objectives including pre-test, post-test and actual network test windows. Review  previous test status, profiles, network diagrams and contractual information to identify  network requirements and potential problems. Implement  disaster recovery networks according to coordinated requirements including the inter-connectivity and configuration of all network equipment. Provide documentation in the form of network test status, subscriber profiles, network diagrams, telecommunications billing and monthly reports. Ability to provide training and guidance. Provide technical assistance to   during the planning and coordination of network tests.

SKILLS:
College degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Minimum of 3 years technical experience in a network environment. Technical knowledge and experience with modems, DSU’s multiplexers, bridges and routers. Technical knowledge and experience with SW56, ISDN, and T1/Frac-T1. Knowledge of and experience with various network protocols, such as SNA/SDLC, BISYNC, TCP/IP. Knowledge and experience with PCs, LAN protocols and connectivity (Ethernet and Token Ring). Experience with Sonet, Frame Relay and SMDS preferred. Experience with Windows NT, Novel IPX and ATM preferred. Experience with FDDI and Fast Ethernet preferred. Knowledge of network components related to Mainframe and Mid-Range platforms (communications of controllers, channel extenders, protocol conversion/gateway devices, etc.).
